"Old 300" by Thom Zehrfeld
The Waterfront Trolley (Old 300) is one of Astoria, Oregon's main attractions. It travels along the Columbia River and provides riders with magnificent views of the Columbia River and Downtown Astoria.
Riders can ride the trolley for practically nothing. The trolley is "Old Number 300" and comes from San Antonio, Texas.
It was built in 1913. San Antonio ended their streetcar service in 1933. However, Old 300 is still the property of the San Antonio Museum Association.
However, it has been around in Oregon for years. Before it found its way to Astoria, it ran a few other places in Oregon. Finally, the trolley found its way to Astoria and a volunteer group restored Old 300.
It had considerable wood rot. The exterior canvas roof of the trolley was re-covered, and an interior bead-board ceiling was installed.
The interior and exterior were painted. And instead, of an overhead electrical line they added a diesel trail...
Thom Zehrfeld lives in Newport, Oregon on the Central Coast and, is fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful spots in Oregon! The ocean, the beach, the sea's fresh air naturally inspires his art! There is always something exciting to capture with a camera! However, it's not all seascapes...Thom likes capturing automobiles, trucks, motorcycles. And, he travels many places to do just that!
