Thank you for visiting my fine art photography site! The sunlight gently sets on the underneath part of the Siuslaw River Bridge in Florence, Oregon. The bridge is a bascule bridge (draw bridge) designed by Conde McCullough, a renowned state bridge engineer, in the art deco style. The Siuslaw River Drawbridge was opened to traffic in 1936, it is one of Oregon�s original historic coastal bridges. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge spans the Siuslaw River on U.S. Route 101 in Florence, Oregon. The bridge cost an astounding $527,000 to construct. What would it cost today to build it? Like the other bridges completed on the Oregon Coast Highway 101 in 1936, the Siuslaw River Bridge replaced ferry service across the Siuslaw River. It is 1,568 feet long.
