"Watching The Ships Go By!" by Thom Zehrfeld
Thank you for visiting my fine art photography site! The setting is Astoria, Oregon...one of the coolest seaports in Oregon! This seagull, really a Western Gull, is viewing the two freighters, as they come and go on the Columbia River. Astoria is located near the mouth of the Columbia River where it meets the mighty Pacific Ocean. The city was named after pioneer investor John Jacob Astor, who settled there in the early 1800's. Astoria's population is just short of 10,000 folks. In the past, Astoria has been through its ups and downs, weathering the collapse of both the Columbia River fishery and Oregon timber industry. Now days, it is a cultural haven, as some refer to as little San Francisco. This image has been converted to paintography.

Thom Zehrfeld lives in Newport, Oregon on the Central Coast and, is fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful spots in Oregon! The ocean, the beach, the sea's fresh air naturally inspires his art! There is always something exciting to capture with a camera! However, it's not all seascapes...Thom likes capturing automobiles, trucks, motorcycles. And, he travels many places to do just that! He uses mostly color, adding textures and, lately has gone head first into digital painting...giving some photos a dimension that allows for a very unique look. Photography awards include the “McLoughlin Promenade” which is displayed at the Clackamas County Historical Museum in Oregon City. Also, he has won the Springbok National...
