"POWER WHEELS!" by Thom Zehrfeld
These electric power wheels are located in a now defunct mill is near Shedd, Oregon. It is the oldest existing water-powered grain mill in Oregon.
It sits on the Calapooia River. The original mill was constructed in 1858. In 2004, the Oregon Parks and Recreation bought the mill and opened it to the public.
The mill buildings and Queen Anne style mill keeper's residence are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The 1904 residence was one of first rural homes in Oregon to have electricity which was supplied by the mill....these are the wheels that did the job.
This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures to give the image more detail and color, and then incorporating a unique painted effect.

Thom Zehrfeld lives in Newport, Oregon on the Central Coast and, is fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful spots in Oregon! The ocean, the beach, the sea's fresh air naturally inspires his art! There is always something exciting to capture with a camera! However, it's not all seascapes...Thom likes capturing automobiles, trucks, motorcycles. And, he travels many places to do just that! He uses mostly color, adding textures and, lately has gone head first into digital painting...giving some photos a dimension that allows for a very unique look. Photography awards include the “McLoughlin Promenade” which is displayed at the Clackamas County Historical Museum in Oregon City. Also, he has won the Springbok National...
