Description
"Last Stop!" by Thom Zehrfeld
The 6116 diesel-powered locomotive has rumbled down the tracks for the last time! This old timer sits in a railroad salvage yard on the Oregon Coast.
The paint is peeling! Rust is taking over! However, there is a presence of something that's powerful!
The first internal combustion engine-powered locomotives used gasoline as their fuel. A gentleman by the name of Rudolf Diesel came along and patented the first compression ignition engine back in 1892.
So, where does the term diesel fuel come from? By 1925 a small number of diesel locomotives with a whooping 600 horsepower were in service in the United States.
In the fifties mass production of diesel locomotives had begun. The diesel locomotive also displayed greater flexibility and performance than the steam locomotive
It was also had lower operating and maintenance costs than the steam engine.
This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures to give the image more detail and color, and then incorporating a unique painted effect.
