"Boomtown Saloon Jacksonville, Oregon USA" by Thom Zehrfeld
Jacksonville Oregon has been called One of America Top 10 Coolest Small Towns by Frommers. But first, Jacksonville got its start as a gold rush town in 1851.
OK, this is how the saloon got its name, Boomtown! Because of the gold, Jacksonville thrived to become the largest city in Oregon. And, it was at one time, the largest inland port in Oregon.
However, in the 1800s the railroad decided to by-pass the town. Things went south, almost into oblivion. However, this became a blessing because the historic buildings and homes all remained in tack as they were in the 1800's.
Jacksonville has become a National Historic District as a result. So what does this mean? It means you visit Jacksonville, get out of your car and walk around and take in the beauty and historic significance of this cool place!
Yes! That is Old Glory off to the left! Also, that has to be some historic advertising of Levi Overalls on the side of the building.
