"Bad Water Day" by Thom Zehrfeld
The Mary D. Hume was a steamer built at Gold Beach, Oregon in 1881. She got around! At one time, she hauled goods between Oregon and San Francisco.
The Hume then became a whaler in Alaska. She was also worked for a cannery in Alaska. And, she also played the role of a tugboat.
She eventually returned to Gold Beach and was retired. However, she sank in 1985. The Hume is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Gold Beach, Oregon is a cool town on the Southern Oregon Coast. The famous Rogue River meets the Pacific Ocean in Gold Beach and, it is a wonder that this old boat hasn't been swept out in pieces with the tide into the ocean.
This image has been converted to High Dynamic Range (HDR) by combining three different exposures to give the image more detail and color and then converting the results into a digital painting.

Thom Zehrfeld lives in Newport, Oregon on the Central Coast and, is fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful spots in Oregon! The ocean, the beach, the sea's fresh air naturally inspires his art! There is always something exciting to capture with a camera! However, it's not all seascapes...Thom likes capturing automobiles, trucks, motorcycles. And, he travels many places to do just that! He uses mostly color, adding textures and, lately has gone head first into digital painting...giving some photos a dimension that allows for a very unique look. Photography awards include the “McLoughlin Promenade” which is displayed at the Clackamas County Historical Museum in Oregon City. Also, he has won the Springbok National...
