Thank you for visiting my fine art photography site! Crab rings, with brightly colored buoys sitting dockside on the Historic Bayfront in Newport, Oregon.
The crab rings are thrown out in the Pacific Ocean fairly close to shore. They settle on the bottom, with fish carcasses for bait.
The crabs enter the rings to feast on the carcasses but, can't get back out. The buoys mark where the crab rings are and are identified by a number on the buoy.
The captain marks the location on their GPS. Poachers are known to steal the rings with crabs aboard. If they get caught they are fined and face jail time.
